The axes support linear and logarithmic scales. We could add "square root" axis scale, as explained here:

The labels in this kind of axis would be (ie):
0, 1, 4, 9, 16,...

or

0, 10, 40, 90, 160,...

or

0, 100, 400, 900, 1600,...

And these labels would be equidistant.
