The area gradient isn’t shown in the legend symbol. The gradient is only visible in the legend symbol, if you do visible the series pointer  and sets the gradient pointer to true. Seems the problem is introduced from build 4.1.2014.12154. The same occurs in VCL. The code below shows the problem:  

        private void InitializeChart()
        {
            tChart1.Aspect.View3D = false;
            tChart1.Legend.Alignment = Steema.TeeChart.LegendAlignments.Bottom;
            area1.FillSampleValues(10);
            area1.Pointer.Gradient.Visible = true;             
            area1.Gradient.Visible = true;
        }
